Onalytica Blog presenterar en undersökning där man har kastat ett par getögon på skillnaden mellan inflytande och popularitet samt deras inbördes relation. Som avgränsning har man valt 20 sajter om bloggmarknadsföring.
Actually, among the 20 most popular stakeholders only Search Engine Watch and Top Rank Results have more influence than their popularity would suggest and “punch above their weight”, so to speak.
The results demonstrate that sheer popularity can give influence, but also that popularity is not a requirement for influence.

Perhaps a similar study on a different and less loosely defined term might be a better way to illustrate the difference between influence and popularity.
Anyway – I’m interested in finding ways to compare popularity and influence as it is an important distinction to make in my opinion but I’m just not sure that this study is quite there yet in terms of illustrating how to do it.
